Document How is eligibility affected by the country that I study or live in?

Medical or Dental courses

If you live in England and want to study in England or another UK country (Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland), we will assess and, where applicable, pay bursary.

If you live in a UK country outside of England and wish to study in England, you should contact the relevant funding authorities in your home country.

If your normal residence prior to your course starting was in the EU (not the UK) and you are studying in any of the UK countries, although you would normally apply to the country in which you are studying, you can make your application to any UK funding body. However, you can only apply to us or the funding body of the UK country you are studying in, not both. Your application will also be restricted to tuition fees only.

Nursing / Midwifery and Allied Health Professional (AHP) courses

If you live in England or another UK country and want to study a nursing, midwifery or AHP course in England starting prior to 1 August 2017 , we will assess and, where applicable, pay bursary.

Following the Health Education Funding reforms, nursing, midwifery and AHP courses at English Universities that start on or after 1 August 2017 no longer attract NHS funding with the exception of students on dental hygiene / dental therapy courses and postgraduate programmes if studying on a place commissioned by Health Education England, and a capped number of places on part time programmes under transitional arrangements, however students on part time programmes have to be ordinarily resident in England and will need to apply for tuition fees and Disabled Students Allowance through the Student Loans Company (SLC). Students not under the transitional arrangements will need to apply to SLC for their tuition fee and maintenance loan funding.

If you live in England or another UK country and want to study a nursing, midwifery or AHP course in another UK country, you should contact the relevant funding authorities in the country you will study in.

Studying outside of the UK

We do not fund any courses based outside of the UK.
