Document What does settled status mean?

Settled status means being ordinarily resident in the UK without being subject to any restriction on the period for which a person may remain in the UK.

It is not necessary for a person to have settled status for the whole of the 3 years preceding the start of the course. This could have been granted at any time during that period.

A person is free from any restriction on the period for which they may remain in the UK if:
  • They are a British citizen, or
  • They are a person who has a right of permanent residence in the UK, or
  • They have been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain or enter the UK or
  • They have been granted a Right of Abode in the UK
