Document How is my pharmacy's NMS payment calculated?

The NMS payment is based upon the number of NMS items that we process, the number of NMS declared on your submission document and the target set out in the table below.

Please note; the figure for the number of NMS items may not match the number of professional fees you have been paid, as some items attract more than one fee; i.e MDA forms. Therefore, as your NMS payment is based upon this figure, you may not receive the NMS payment you were expecting as you may not have dispensed enough items.

A monthly payment will be paid for each completed full NMS intervention. The fee per NMS intervention will be dependent on the number of NMS interventions achieved for the month and whether any target has been achieved based on the monthly prescription volume of the pharmacy.

The payment to be made per NMS intervention and the number of NMS interventions required per month to reach a target can be found in the table below. If you fail to reach the first target level (20%) then all full NMS interventions provided will be paid at £20 each.

Where a target level is reached, all of the full NMS interventions provided up to that point are paid at the rate corresponding to the target. Payment will be made up to the maximum number of full NMS interventions as set below.

For example, if you dispense 6,000 items per month and deliver 12 full NMS interventions you would be paid for all 12 at £26 each, as you will have reached the 40 per cent target.

If you dispense more than 10,500 items per month, the volume bandings will continue to increase in increments of 1,000 items per month. For each increment, the number of full NMS interventions required to meet the 20 per cent activity threshold will increase by one, the 40 per cent activity threshold will increase by two, the 60 per cent activity threshold will increase by three, the 80 per cent activity threshold will increase by four and the threshold for the maximum number of full NMS interventions per month for which payment will be received will increase by five.

Please note that each month is considered separately and full NMS interventions from one month cannot be carried to later months.
