Document Where can I find out if an item is allowed on an NHS prescription?

You can access the dictionary of medicines + devices (dm+d) which contains a huge variety of information, for example whether a product will be reimbursed by the NHSBSA if submitted for reimbursement by a dispensing contractor and the indicative price of each pack of a product (where a price is maintained by the NHSBSA). The data also shows current and discontinued products and packs available from manufacturers and suppliers.

Information on products which are allowed can also be found in the Drug Tariff. Items that appear in Part XVIIIA of the Drug Tariff are not allowed to be prescribed on an NHS prescription. Other items will be allowed except those that are considered a medical device (appliance).

Appliances can be identified by the 'CE' mark on the packaging, all appliances must be listed in the Drug Tariff to be allowed.
